The 8th Seminar of China Biobank Standardization Construction and Application and the 3rd Deans' Summit of China Biobank

The 8th Seminar of China Biobank Standardization Construction and Application and the 3rd Dean's Summit of China Biospecimen Bank was grandly held from March 24th ~26th 2016 at Guangzhou Zhujiang Hotel, led by the China Medical Biotech Association and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences , co-organized by the Biobank Branch of China Medical Biotech Association (BBCMBA), National Technical Committee on Bio-specimen of Standardization Administration of China (NTCBSAC), the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tongji Hospital of Tongji University, Beijing Biobank, and Shanghai Outdo Biotech Co., Ltd., and supported by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Engineering Research Center for Biochip at Shanghai and Molecular Medicine Engineering Center at Shanghai. A total of more than 300 hospitals, universities, research institutes and biomedical enterprises participated in this conference, as well as more than 100 experts, over 1000 delegates and 50 exhibitors worldwide.

The opening ceremony of the conference was hosted by Prof. Weihua Jia from the Oncology Prevention and Control Center of Sun Yat-sen University on the morning of 25th. Prof. Hengjun Gao, CEO of Shanghai Outdo Biotech Co., Ltd., Director of the Bio-specimen Bank Branch of China Medical Biotech Association, introduced the main conference content: Deans brainstorm, Biobanks directors’ technology communication, Biobank international developments assembly, etc. He stressed the importance of the Biobank standardization, collaboration and sharing and reported the great contributions BBCMBA made to biomedical industry. Prof. Ruihua Xu, President of Oncology Prevention and Control Center of Sun Yat-sen University, delivered a speech to systematically introduce the work and expectations of the Cancer Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in precision medicine about oncology based on its biobank and clinical drug trial platforms, emphasizing the significant role Biobank played in precision medicine. And Mr. Shaoli Li, Executive Vice President of China Medical Biotech Association, expressed his warm congratulations to the conference and the important impact BBCMBA made in China Biobank Standardization construction and application, hoping that the top part of the standard system would be well built and the workers involved in Biobank could actively communicate, interact and share their excellent wisdom, rich experience and fruitful results.

After the ceremony, followed the conference main 4 parts. The 1st part was the 3rd China Biobank Dean's Summit, Academician Huanming Yang, Dean Weiping Jia, Dean Ruihua Xu, Prof. Xiang Du and Prof. Hengjun Gao gave wonderful presentations, listed important issues and formed some consensus. The 2nd part was Deans’s brainstorm, with Prof. Hengjun Gao and Prof. Xiang Du as host, Dean Ruihua Xu, Dean Yucheng Guo, Dean Kexin Chen, Dean Zhongyi Jiang, Dean Kaichun Wu, Dean Haixiao Chen and Dean Hejian Zou interacted with the audience, each of them expressed honestly their ideas and thoughts. The 3rd part was the 8th Seminar of China Biobank Standardization Construction and Application, relating to biobank regulations and management, standards and evaluation; sharing, application and translation, Informatization and big data, and specialized sample Banks, etc. The 4th part was the BBCMBA Chinese Medicine Group Meeting and the inaugural meeting of the BBCMBA Pediatrics Group. Experts from the Group presented the fruitful scientific results achieved recently.

The conference also set up a special poster area for biobanks, and invited around 40 biobanks for commission poster presentations. Also it introduced the advanced concepts, innovative ideas, latest technologies and relevant practical achievements of biobanks all over China, via the biobankers exchange meetings and oral presentations, creating a platform for presentation and communication.

The delegates expressed thoughts and concerns for their biobanks construction and had passionate discussion and exchange with experts. The conference was unprecedented in scale, and received high praise from society, and more of similar conferences are expected.
