Blindness is a very strongly age-related problem: the risk of blindness is ten times higher after age 65 and 20 times higher after age 75 than in younger people.

This is explained by the existence of pathologies linked to the ageing of the different structures of the eye: crystalline (cataract), retina (age-related macular degeneration), optic nerve (glaucoma).
