“Man & Machine” collaboration to treat patients
Quantum Surgical and Stäubli strategic partnership for Healthcare
Quantum Surgical, based in Montpellier, France, specializes in medical robotics and AI. Founded in 2017, the company has obtained CE and FDA clearance for the commercialization of Epione®, a robotic-assisted platform designed to support interventional oncologists who perform percutaneous ablations for challenging tumors, a minimally invasive treatment where one or more needles are inserted through the skin to destroy the tumor.
Currently approved for treatment of abdominal (CE, FDA cleared) and lung (CE) tumors, several hundred patients have already been treated with the Epione system. More than 4 million of those cancers are diagnosed each year worldwide (1).
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, there were almost 20 million new cases of cancer in 2022. It is predicted this number will climb to 35 million by 2050, a 77% increase. These numbers call for innovative resources to address this growing need for advanced care (2). Quantum Surgical is dedicated to developing new applications that treat other types of cancer and improve the lives of patients worldwide.
Relying on the physician's know-how, Epione® integrates all the steps of a percutaneous ablation procedure in a single platform: planning, targeting, treatment delivery (ablation), and confirmation.
At Quantum Surgical, we believe in the power of collaboration. Epione® is a testament to this belief, as it allows physicians to treat challenging tumors that are particularly difficult to reach. We value physicians’ feedback, which is instrumental in refining features or developing new ones to meet their needs.
Quantum Surgical and Stäubli signed a strategic partnership in 2020 to build a common vision of robotics and automation in healthcare.
“We are honored to work with Stäubli, a company recognized for its technological excellence and savoir-faire” explains Bertin Nahum, President, and co-founder of Quantum Surgical."
