Data logging solutions for vaccine temperature monitoring

it’s vital that the vaccine is kept at a temperature of -70°C.

Thousands of doses of the breakthrough Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine is distributed across the UK, after being despatched from the US, Germany and Belgium. However, it’s vital that the vaccine is kept at a temperature of -70°C.

Here, T&D’s data loggers with thermocouple sensors - such as the TR45, TR-55i-TC, RTR-505 and TR-75wb - are invaluable, as they ensure continuous and reliable measurement of temperatures as low as -199°C.

This means they are ideal for monitoring not only the COVID-19 vaccine, but others that also require special climatic conditions during transportation and storage. Several T&D loggers perfectly fulfil this role, with some specifically designed to monitor temperatures in hard to reach areas.

The affordable TR45 temperature data loggers are equipped with Bluetooth low energy technology and two dedicated apps which allow for real-time monitoring of temperature changes on a smartphone or tablet. They are also thermocouple and Pt sensor-compatible. The TR45 model is a versatile one channel temperature logger that can be connected to a Pt100/PT1000 sensor or to a variety of thermocouple types (K, J, T, S, R). With thermocouple it is possible to measure and record temperatures ranging from -199 ℃ to 1760 ℃. With the TR45, there is also free access to T&D’s cloud service.

The TR-7wb (WLAN+ Bluetooth) and TR-7nw (LAN) data loggers measure wide-ranging temperatures and humidity – the TR-75wb and TR-75nw, for example, have 2CH thermocouple sensor connections (K, J, T, E, S, R) and record the same measurement range as the TR45. Thanks to highly responsive sensors, they’re also ideal for use in vaccine storage areas. They also get free access to Webstorage Cloud service and various T&D apps.

The RTR-500 and T&D’s new RTR500B series allow various wireless radio communication loggers to be mixed and matched with different data collectors, according to individual needs – and with T&D’s free cloud service available. The RTR-500MBS-A has 3G mobile network capability, and collects data wirelessly from registered data loggers. It can then send the warning report data via 3G to a preset email address and via SMS. This is a stress-free solution for when there is no PC or LAN available, such as during transportation. This model will ultimately be superseded by the RTR500BM with 4G capability, which is set to be launched in April 2021.

The Bluetooth-enabled RTR500BW is designed for use with wired or wireless LAN and ideal for temperature monitoring in storage areas. It collects data from registered data loggers via wireless radio communication and automatically sends data via LAN to the free, multifunctional cloud storage service "T&D WebStorage Service" using HTTPS - an encrypted communication feature that ensures superior security.

The RTR500B series allows you to mix and match an array of wireless radio communication loggers with various data collectors to meet your needs. The RTR500BC is a USB data collector that can be directly connected to a PC for data transfer and management via the T&D software and with T&D’s free cloud service available. It can also act as a repeater to extend the wireless radio communication range between loggers and all base stations.

The RTR-505B loggers, meanwhile, have a wireless communication range with compatible base units of up to 150m (55ft), Bluetooth capability and are thermocouple sensor-compatible (K, J, T, S). Data from the base unit can then be automatically uploaded to cloud storage, saved to a specific location or accessed either on a PC or on site. The use of various optional modules means it’s possible to measure not only temperature, but also voltage, current and pulse.

The TR-55i-TC monitors temperatures as low as -199°C and is designed for use with highly versatile thermocouple sensors. It can connect to a communication port (computer via USB) or portable data collector, and is a recommended solution for long-term monitoring. Data downloaded to a PC can be viewed and analyzed with T&D’s Windows compatible software, T&D Graph.

T&D also offers constantly updated and improved software solutions for the monitoring of recorded data, automatic downloads and warning notifications. The free T&D WebStorage service can be used on a computer or mobile device, anytime and anywhere. The free T&D Graph software allows users to read larger numbers of recorded data files in one graph, merge, view and save data in multiple ways, and use more effective tools for data management and analysis.
