OEB 5 Containment Isolator for High-Potency Weighing and Sampling: Balancing Safety, Accuracy, and Compliance
OEB 5 Containment Isolator for High-Potency Weighing and Sampling
As ADCs, HPAPIs, and cell & gene therapy products continue to advance, laboratories are handling high-potency powders more frequently than ever.
For EHS and QC, this brings three critical challenges:
How can operator safety be ensured during weighing and sampling?
How can microbalance accuracy be maintained under negative pressure?
How can containment performance be verified with reliable data?
Traditional biosafety cabinets and fume hoods can help reduce aerosol exposure, but they often fall short in overall containment integrity, verification capability, and pressure stability. In many cases, negative pressure fluctuations may exceed ±20 Pa, leading to noticeable weighing deviations and making it difficult to meet OEB 4–5 containment requirements.
To address these challenges, Tailin has developed the OEB 5 Negative Pressure Isolator for Weighing and Sampling, designed for high-potency material handling in laboratory environments.
Key Advantages of the OEB 5 Negative Pressure Isolator:
Built on more than 20 years of isolator technology experience, this solution has been engineered around four key priorities: high-level containment, stable negative pressure control, process adaptability, and regulatory compliance. It has already been applied in pharmaceutical companies and CRO laboratories, receiving positive user feedback.
1. Verified Containment: OEL < 1 μg/m³
The isolator is designed for OEB 5-level protection, with occupational exposure levels controlled below 1 μg/m³.
Its inflatable door sealing system and 15 mm tempered glass structure help maintain a highly sealed working environment. For containment verification, third-party SMEPAC testing can be performed to provide quantitative, traceable data in line with ISPE guidelines.
Instead of relying on subjective methods or basic pressure readings, containment performance can be demonstrated with measurable results. In third-party testing, the negative pressure isolator for sampling and dispensing can achieve containment levels below 10 ng/m³.
2. Stable Negative Pressure: Within ±5 Pa
For high-potency weighing operations, pressure stability directly affects weighing accuracy.
Conventional equipment with ±20 Pa pressure fluctuation may cause balance drift of 0.1 mg or more. Tailin’s isolator uses an EMB fan and self-developed PID control algorithm to monitor and dynamically adjust pressure in real time, keeping pressure fluctuation within ±5 Pa.
This helps create a more stable environment for precision weighing. For applications requiring higher accuracy, optional configurations such as a high-precision air-floating platform and anti-static bar are also available.
3. Practical Design for Daily Laboratory Use
Beyond containment performance, usability also matters in daily operations.
Material and Ergonomic Design
The chamber is made of 316L stainless steel, offering corrosion resistance and easy cleaning. Rounded internal corners help reduce dead zones and support cleaning efficiency.
Glove System Flexibility
The glove system can be configured according to process needs, including single- or double-chamber layouts and different glove quantities, and a one-piece 8Y glove-and-sleeve design. The quick-change design helps shorten glove replacement time to just a few minutes.
Smart Control & Data Integrity
A Siemens touch screen and PLC system provide real-time monitoring of negative pressure, temperature, humidity, and filter differential pressure. Alarm records are non-editable, supporting GMP data integrity requirements. The system can also be connected to BMS, EMS, or LIMS platforms.
Structure and Customization
The compact structure clearly separates the operation chamber from the transfer chamber, with optional left/right positioning to suit different laboratory layouts. Configurations can be adjusted or customized to specific process needs — for example, balance selection, waste-liquid collection piping, or an optional printer or data acquisition system.
Typical Applications of OEB 5 Isolators:
Tailin’s OEB 5 Negative Pressure Isolator is suitable for a wide range of high-potency laboratory operations, including:
HPAPI weighing and sampling, such as small-molecule toxins in ADC drugs and cytotoxic compounds
ADC intermediate dispensing
Incoming material sampling and retention sample management in QC laboratories
Sterile weighing of cell therapy-related materials, such as viral vectors and cytokines
Other OEB 4–5 high-potency powder handling workflows
More Than Equipment: A Complete Containment Support Solution:
For high-potency material handling, equipment performance is only one part of the solution.
Tailin provides end-to-end support, covering pre-sales solution design, risk assessment, URS preparation, on-site installation and commissioning, IQ/OQ documentation, third-party SMEPAC verification, after-sales inspection, maintenance, and spare parts support.
In the development of high-potency pharmaceuticals, safety is the baseline, accuracy is the key, and compliance is the prerequisite.
Tailin’s OEB 5 Negative Pressure Isolator for Weighing and Sampling is designed to protect operators, support stable weighing performance, and provide verifiable containment data for regulated laboratory environments.
