The use of dental mouth mirrors

Oral mirror, or mouth mirror, is a dental instrument. It is a small mirror that can be put into a person's mouth and attached to a long handle. Mouth mirror is one of the most important dental equipment found in the dental examination room.

1. The use of dental mouth mirrors

1) Gain indirect vision. Obtaining indirect vision refers to observing the tooth surface or intraoral structure that cannot be seen directly with dental mouth mirrors. The operator can see the dental instruments in the mouth mirror.

(2) Traction. Traction refers to the use of mouth mirrors to pull the patient's cheek, mucosa or tongue so that the doctor can see the tooth surface covered by these soft tissues.

(3) Indirect lighting. Indirect illumination refers to the use of mouth mirrors to reflect light to the tooth surface in the dark area of the mouth.

(4) Perspective. This refers to the technique of reflecting light through the anterior teeth with mouth mirrors.

2. Precautions for using dental mouth mirrors

Avoid hitting the patient's teeth with mouth mirrors. Do not let the edge of the head of the mouth mirrors press on the patient's gingival tissue. The doctor's index finger and thumb can also be used for pulling. When pulling the patient's lips, using finger pulling will make the patient feel more comfortable than using mouth mirrors.
