3 languages in clinical medicine

The most important part of the physical examination

The column of Dr. Tsunekazu Takashina ( Chairman of the Japanese Educational Clinical Cardiology Society)

Dr. Takashina writes about the necessary of three languages for clinical examination.

・interview= everyday language

・inspection=language from body, that can be seen from the outside

・auscultation=language from organs

He also tells that the development of medical equipment has led to an increase in the number of medical personnel who cannot perform auscultation, neglecting cardiac physical examination techniques, which should be important in the medical field.

---- Excerpts ----

The most important part of the physical examination is auscultation. Today, many physicians have a stethoscope but have never used it at the bedside. I think one of the biggest reasons is that there are no specialists to teach auscultation.

In fact, it seems that the number of doctors who are not good at auscultation is increasing every year.
