What is transcatheter aortic valve implantation?(TAVI)

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

What is TAVI?

TAVI: The assembled aortic valve is placed into the root of the aorta via catheter to replace the original aortic valve and complete the functional replacement of the aortic valve.

transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) :A treatment for severe aortic stenosis.

TAVI's 6 approaches:

1. The Trans-femoral approach is the preferred route for the vast majority of TAVI patients, as the procedure can be done under awake sedation without intubation. The major vascular complications associated with the site of entry (the approach) are reduced. Due to its wide spread and feasibility, the transfemoral approach is the preferred route in most clinical trials and is recommended as the preferred route in all guidelines.

2.Trans-axillary

3.Trans-aortic

4.Trans-apical

5.Trans-caval

6.Trans-carotid

Key points of TAVI:

Preoperative: CT angiography was performed to evaluate aortic ring geometry and peripheral vessels

Intraoperatively: The valve was positioned at the aortic ring and extended 2-5mm below the ring according to the design to avoid perivalvular fistula and coronary artery occlusion

The success of the TAVI procedure is the result of a combination of factors, including accurate preoperative evaluation, a perfect match between the commercial prosthesis and the specific anatomical characteristics of the TAVI patient, the technology of the TAVI team, the implantation skills, and the choice of a tailored surgical approach.

Since the first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) was successfully carried out in the world, its related instruments have been continuously improved, innovated, and the technology has been continuously developed. A large number of clinical trials have confirmed the efficacy and safety of TAVI in the treatment of severe aortic stenosis (AS). TAVI has been promoted and applied worldwide, and has become one of the standard treatments for patients with severe AS.
