SKIN CONDITIONS

Broken skin with painful open wounds and sores occur in genetic skin conditions. The barrier of the skin is often broken or blistered with just a slight touch, which can lead to further complications with infection and scarring. Unfortunately, these conditions can be inherited and it is estimated that around 500,000 people worldwide suffer from a group of genetic skin conditions called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)1

There are 3 types of EB:

EB Simplex

The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa, EB Simplex (EBS) is characterised by a lack of adhesion of the skin directly above the basement membrane.

Dystrophic EB

Dystrophic EB (DEB) is a genetic skin condition characterised by a lack of adhesion of the skin under the basement membrane.

Junctional EB

Junctional EB (JEB) is characterised by a lack of adhesion of the skin through the basement membrane.
