Telehealth technology helping locals in remote locations

Telehealth technology is helping locals in remote NSW, Wanaaring

200 kilometres west of Bourke there’s a small village of around 140 people called Wanaaring where the temperature averages 40 degrees year-round. Until recently the folks who live here and in the surrounding region had to travel hundreds of kilometres in the scorching heat on “bull dust” roads to see a doctor. But now there is help for locals in remote NSW. With the recent installation of a ProEX Telehealth Hub local nurse Pat can now connect residents via satellite to a GP or specialist for a remote consultation. Eliminating the need for travel saves time and money and reduces the risk to the patient. Having access to vital patient information and expert guidance helps Pat to make crucial decisions that could save a life.

Visionflex CEO Mike Harman travelled for 2 days over 1200 kilometres – some of it only accessible by 4WD – to deliver and install a ProEX Telehealth Hub into a specially designed lockable workstation. Our Telehealth Cabinet was designed in partnership with the Royal Flying Doctors and NSW Health to be able to fold closed and secure medical equipment. It can be remotely unlocked and activated to allow emergency access when the clinic is unattended. This equipment is the latest telehealth technology helping locals in remote locations.

This installation forms part of a pilot trial with the Royal Flying Doctors to assess the suitability of the ProEX Telehealth Hub for remote locations. The initial feedback has been extremely positive so we’re on to our next stop: Yunta, around 250 kilometres west of Broken Hill. Visionflex telehealth technology is helping locals in remote locations across the country.
