Case sharing after ostomy
A colostomy is a common medical procedure, but there are many complications that can occur with a colostomy, one of which is mucus in the colostomy.
In this article, we will discuss the clinical manifestations, treatment, and prevention of mucus in colostomy sites.
It can help people with colon disease and bowel cancer to have a bowel movement easier.
Clinical manifestations of colostomy mucus :
The main symptom of colostomy mucus is the sensation of mucus coming out of the patient's body, often creating a wet sensation. Stoma mucus generally has two normal situations:
1. Normal secretion: if it is an enterostomy, gallbladder stoma, or nephrostomy, feces, bile, and urine are usually discharged through the stoma, so a large number of viscous secretions secreted from the end of the rectum, as well as bile, urine It will be discharged through the stoma, resulting in the phenomenon of mucus flowing out of the stoma. This phenomenon is a normal physiological phenomenon, and no special treatment is required, as long as the local skin is kept hygienic, clean, and dry.
2. Abnormal secretion: After stoma surgery, if you do not pay attention to the hygiene, cleaning, and care of the local wound, bacteria can easily invade and cause infection, and stimulate the wound to secrete secretions. Bacteria and white blood cells that swallow bacteria can be mixed in the secretions. Substances can also cause mucus to flow out of the stoma, and can also be accompanied by symptoms such as fever, itching, and pain.
3. The glue on the bottom of the ostomy bag is mistaken for intestinal mucus: the bottom of the general ostomy bag is made of hydrocolloids. Gels are usually slippery, whitish, or yellowish. If there is a lot of water, the hydrocolloid will be thinner and softer, like snot. This is a sign of a leak, not mucus coming out of the gut. At this time, the chassis of the ostomy bag needs to be replaced in time, but there is no need to worry about the ostomy problem, and there is no need to go to the hospital. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish whether it is the intestinal mucus flowing out of the intestine, or the gel formed after the chassis colloid meets water.
