Case sharing of urostomy dermatitis

Urostomy dermatitis may develop, which causes pain, itching, and skin damage. This article will present a clinical case of periurostomy dermatitis.

How is peripheral skin dermatitis caused?

The excretion of urostomy is urine, which is highly corrosive to the skin. Once in contact with the skin, it can cause symptoms such as skin itching, tingling, edema, bleeding, and even erosion within a few hours . Retraction, uneven skin, improper stoma care techniques, etc. cause urine to contact with the skin around the stoma for a long time. Therefore, irritant dermatitis is the most common complication after enterostomy .

How to prevent daily care?

1. Keep it clean and dry. Wash the area around the urostomy daily with warm water and soap and make sure to dry it thoroughly. Use a sterile wipe or cotton ball to gently wipe the area to avoid friction and irritation.

2. Avoid using cleaners that contain chemicals. These substances may irritate the skin, resulting in dermatitis.

4. Avoid scratching or rubbing the area around the urostomy. Use a lubricant, such as petroleum jelly or silicone gel, to reduce friction and irritation.

5. Keep the area around the urostomy dry and breathable. Use a waterproof dressing to keep the area dry and breathable.

6. Avoid using topical medicines that contain alcohol or other chemicals. These medicines may irritate the skin, causing dermatitis.

7. Watch your diet. Some people are allergic to certain foods, which may cause skin irritation.

What should be done if periurostomy dermatitis has occurred?

1. Master the correct cutting skills of the center hole of the chassis, and choose the stoma accessory products correctly.

2. If the skin has wrinkles and there is a gap between the stoma nipple and the chassis, the wrinkled skin should be filled with anti-leakage cream to ensure the tightness of the skin and the chassis; if the gap can be filled with an anti-leakage ring.

3. Discharge the content of the ostomy bag in time, and empty it in time when it reaches 1/3 or 2/3, so as to avoid leakage of the chassis due to excessive traction caused by excessive urine.

4. If the stoma is retracted, it is recommended to use a convex chassis and a leak-proof ring and use a stoma belt to reinforce the chassis, mainly to increase the adhesion between the chassis and the skin and reduce urine leakage.
