Conference Report: Gongji Urological Calculi Conference of Shanghai General Hospital 2025 Concludes Successfully
Global Exploration on Diagnosis and Treatment
The "2025 Gongji Urological Calculi Conference of Shanghai General Hospital," organized by Shanghai General Hospital, was successfully held in Shanghai, China at September 20-21, 2025, bringing together leading domestic and international experts to explore the future of urological stone management.
Centered around the theme of "Integrating Teaching with Surgical Practice," the conference served as a significant platform for academic and technological exchange. It gathered renowned urology specialists from top-tier hospitals across China, including The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Union Hospital Affiliated Tongji Medical College and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Changhai Hospital affiliated with Naval Medical University, Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Renji Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tianjin Medical University Second Hospital, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. The event also featured distinguished international scholars from University College Hospital and University Malaya Medical Centre.
Through a diverse format combining academic presentations, live surgical demonstrations, and ex vivo simulation training, the conference established an international, multi-dimensional platform for exchanging knowledge and techniques in urinary calculus diagnosis and treatment, promoting international academic collaboration and technological innovation in the field.
Opening Ceremony: A Gathering of Minds
Professor Jun Lu, Guoyong Hu and Bangmin Han from Shanghai General Hospital addressed at the open ceremony.
Prof. Jun Lu emphasized the conference’s role is an important academic flatform for the urological stone field of China, the UK and Malaysia, providing a valuable opportunity for transnational clinical research collaboration.
Prof. Guoyong Hu highlighted the conference's characteristic of "balancing clinical practice with academic research," emphasize the importance of the concept "Integration of Teaching and Practice" in promoting the widespread of advanced techniques.
Prof. Bangmin Han, speaking online, systematically elaborated on Shanghai General Hospital's technical expertise in urological stones field, including an annual volume of over 3,000 stone surgeries and its multicenter research range, which sets a solid academic foundation for the conference.
Academic Sessions: Leading-edge Theories and Global Perspectives
The academic symposium brought together dozens of authoritative urological experts. Discussions centered around several key dimensions: the application of international academic platforms, innovations in minimally invasive technologies and equipment, the value and operative strategies of FANS technology, and treatment planning for complex cases. These multi-faceted presentations shared a comprehensive academic vision, ranging from international cooperation to local practice, and from technological innovation to clinical strategy.
Live Surgery: Demonstrating Advanced Techniques
A series of impressive surgery demonstrations of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery were conducted at the conference. The surgeries were performed by Prof. Xiao Yu from Union Hospital Affiliated Tongji Medical College and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Yi Shao and Prof. Jian Zhuo from Shanghai General Hospital. The Tidor Intelligent Pressure-Control System and UroRide Disposable Intrarenal Pressure Monitoring Ureteral Access Sheath developed by Zhejiang Yigao Medical Technology Co., Ltd had been used though the full procedure.
During the demonstrations, surgeons highly praised these two products for their excellent performance, including intelligent pressure controlling, the sheath’s ability of bending with the scope and comfort of handling. This intuitively manifested the excellence of these domestically innovated devices in targeted stone clearance and intraoperative pressure safety management, etc. The products served as clinical examples of "equipment innovation combined with surgical optimization."
The Tidor Intelligent Pressure-Control System adopting proprietary intelligent pressure control technology, can stabilize intrarenal pressure within a safe range in real-time, enhancing surgical safety and reducing operating time. Compared to traditional negative pressure tech, its standardized intelligent control reduces reliance on the surgeon's individual experience, showing significant advantages in complex cases involving large-volume, multiple, or infected stones, thus providing reliable support for clinical practice.
The UroRide, a globally pioneering integrated disposable pressure-measuring catheter from Zhejiang Yigao Medical, features an independent pressure-measuring channel that allows for real-time, in-situ pressure monitoring, providing accurate data for surgical decisions. Its single-hand, single-operator design with multi-function buttons simplifies the workflow. The ring-holding structure combined with a T-shaped suction interface offers ergonomic and practical benefits, reducing operator fatigue, improving surgical efficiency, and ensuring a smooth procedure.
Conclusion and Outlook: Building a Global Urological Stone Community
Professor Yi Shao pointed that through the deep integration of "Chinese clinical experience with international technical standards," this conference marked the first time a complete chain of "theory-demonstration-practice" was realized in the urological stone field among China, the UK, and Malaysia.
The successful hosting of this conference signifies that Shanghai's urological stone sector, while rooted in local innovation, is actively integrating into the international academic system with an open attitude.
