The Harm of Scoliosis to Children and Global Prevention and Control - Yikang Electronic Spinal Measuring Instrument EK-8400 Assists Early Screening

Scoliosis is a common three-dimensional spinal deformity in children and adolescents (Cobb angle ≥ 10°)

Scoliosis is a common three-dimensional spinal deformity in children and adolescents (Cobb angle ≥ 10°), which progresses most rapidly between the ages of 10 and 14. Jiangsu Yikang Electronic Spinal Measuring Instrument EK-8400 provides core support for early screening with its advantages of accuracy and convenience.
I. Core Harms of Scoliosis to Children
Physiologically, it causes shoulder asymmetry and limited height in the early stage (3-10 centimeters shorter in moderate to severe cases); when the Cobb angle is ≥ 40°, it compresses the heart and lungs (with a 40% decrease in lung capacity) and nerve roots (the incidence of chronic pain exceeds 60%), leading to paralysis in severe cases and also affecting digestion and absorption.
Psychologically, more than 70% of children with scoliosis experience social disorders, and the incidence of depression is three times that of normal children, making them prone to inferiority and introversion. If left untreated, it is likely to develop into severe scoliosis in the future, requiring surgical intervention, which results in occupational limitations and reduced quality of life.
II. Global Epidemic Situation and Urgency of Prevention and Control
International data indicate that the global prevalence of scoliosis in children and adolescents is 1.65%, while a PMC study shows a prevalence of 3.1%. The prevalence in girls (1.76%) is nearly twice that in boys (0.87%), and idiopathic scoliosis accounts for 93.6% (with mild cases accounting for 86.65%). Since 2020, the prevalence rate has risen to 3.02%, making early screening crucial. Yikang EK-8400 is non-invasive, accurate and fast in reporting, enabling efficient large-scale campus screening.
III. WHO Prevention and Control Policies and the Practice of Yikang EK-8400
WHO’s core prevention and control principle is "prevention first, early screening and early treatment". It recommends incorporating screening into the annual physical examinations of primary and secondary school students, establishing a "screening-diagnosis-intervention-follow-up" system, promoting global technical cooperation, and aiming to achieve an early screening coverage rate of ≥ 80% and a mild case intervention rate of ≥ 90% by 2030.
Yikang EK-8400 accurately measures the Cobb angle, supports non-invasive detection with light clothing, is fast and efficient, and is suitable for campus screening. It not only implements WHO screening standards but also facilitates the promotion of global prevention and control technologies, building a solid defense line for children’s spinal health.
Protecting children’s spinal health requires multi-stakeholder collaboration. Yikang will continue to optimize the performance of the EK-8400, practice global prevention and control concepts, and help children stay away from the harm of scoliosis.
