Regain Your Balance Quickly After Knee Surgery

How surgical approach and portable assessment tools boost early recovery

Knee replacement surgery is highly effective at relieving pain, but regaining balance in the first weeks post-op is just as important as rebuilding strength. Early instability can slow rehabilitation and increase the risk of falls, making postural control a critical factor in recovery.

Our latest article explores how the surgical approach affects early balance. A recent study compared the traditional Medial Parapatellar (PP) technique with the Mid-Vastus (MV) approach, which spares the main quadriceps tendon. Results showed that patients with the MV approach maintained better postural control in the first month, feeling steadier and more confident during early rehab exercises.

This breakthrough was possible thanks to portable, research-grade sensors from Kinvent, such as the K-Force Plates and K-Push dynamometer, which allow precise measurement of strength and balance directly at the bedside. Accurate early assessment helps clinicians tailor rehabilitation, track progress, and support safer recovery.
