Enhanced Ear for Caregivers at the Heart of the Senior Citizens' Quarter in Bohars
OSO-AI, chosen to ensure the safety of future residents of the Senior Citizens' Quarter retirement community in Brest.
Starting in 2029, the Seniors’ Quarter in Bohars, led by the University Hospital of Brest, will redefine housing for elderly people through an innovative approach that combines human-centered architecture with advanced technologies. Among these innovations, Enhanced Ear for Caregivers, developed by OSO-AI, will play a central role in improving the safety and comfort of residents.
A technology co-designed for caregivers and residents
Since 2018, OSO-AI has been collaborating with the University Hospital of Brest to develop an artificial intelligence solution dedicated to the medico-social sector. Enhanced Ear for Caregivers analyzes the sound environment of rooms in real time to detect distress situations such as falls, vomiting, or respiratory distress. Unlike traditional systems, it is not limited to a simple fall detector, providing a broader and more inclusive coverage.
Philippe Roguedas, COO and co-founder of OSO-AI, emphasizes: “As a parent, you can tell just by hearing a sound that your child may have fallen. With Enhanced Ear for Caregivers, we wanted to take the project further by focusing on the sounds made by vulnerable people in distressing situations.”
Concrete deployment and media recognition
Already installed in several departments of the University Hospital of Brest, this technology has been officially selected to equip the rooms of the future Seniors’ Quarter. This decision has been praised by local media such as Ouest-France and Le Télégramme, highlighting the integration of Enhanced Ear for Caregivers in this innovative project.

A shared vision for the nursing home of the future
The Seniors’ Quarter in Brest embodies a new way of thinking about elderly care, combining comfort, safety, and humanity. The integration of Enhanced Ear for Caregivers in this project demonstrates the commitment of the University Hospital of Brest and OSO-AI to transform the daily lives of both residents and caregivers.
