OrthoKineCheck: Setting a New Standard in Clinical Biomechanics at Saarland University Hospital
A cutting-edge motion analysis lab combining sports science and orthopedic care
Saarland University Hospital (UKS) in Germany has taken a major step toward integrating clinical insight with cutting-edge technology through the launch of the OrthoKineCheck biomechanics lab. This facility offers a unique blend of 3D motion analysis and orthopedic assessment, aiming to improve athletic performance and prevent injuries—whether in elite athletes or committed amateurs.
To bring this vision to life, UKS selected STT Systems’ 3DMA solution. The system captures human movement with millimeter precision and delivers discipline-specific metrics in real time, helping clinicians and sports professionals detect dysfunctions and personalize interventions.
One of the lab’s most popular services is clinical bike fitting, which combines a full 3D biomechanical analysis of the cyclist on their own bike with a personalized orthopedic assessment by Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Landgraeber. All in a single session (1–3 hours), eligible for reimbursement by German public health insurance.
The OrthoKineCheck team is already expanding its services with new protocols for:
- Gait and posture
- Running analysis
- Golf swing assessment
- Sport-specific studies in handball and basketball
This project positions UKS as a European benchmark in applied biomechanics, demonstrating how the synergy between medical expertise and motion capture technology can drive more precise, data-driven, and preventive care.
Thinking of building your own motion analysis lab? STT Systems can help you make it happen.
