Is there a Relationship between Pulmonary Nodules and Pulmonary Tumors?

Pulmonary nodules are not equal to the early stage of lung tumors. Many diseases in the lungs will form nodules, such as inflammation, tuberculosis, mold and hemorrhage. More than 90% of small pulmonary nodules are benign lesions, and the malignant ratio is very low. However, attention should be paid to them, and they should not be left alone. Regular follow-up examinations are conducted in the hospital.

How to distinguish whether a pulmonary nodule is benign or malignant?

1. Size of pulmonary nodules

The larger the nodule in the pulmonary, the higher the likelihood of malignant transformation. Nodules smaller than 10mm in diameter had a low probability of malignant transformation, but those larger than 20mm had a high probability of malignant transformation of 64%.

2. Imaging performance

Benign nodules in the lungs are uniform in density, with clear and smooth margins, and the examination report shows superficial calcifications, cavities, and satellite lesions. However, malignant nodular lesions have uneven density, indistinct margins, burr changes, and pleurodesis.

3. Sick people

Different patients with small pulmonary nodules have a very different risk of malignant transformation. Long-term and heavy smoking, prolonged exposure to asbestos and radioactive substances, family history of lung tumors, nodule size, location and shape of growth, number and growth rate of nodules, as well as pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema, etc. All are high risk factors for pulmonary malignancy.
