Is TAVR a high risk surgery?

Transcatheter Aortic Valves Replaceable

What is TAVR?

In recent years, aortic valve stenosis is a common disease clinically, the 2-year mortality rate of patients with severe stenosis can reach 50%. Therefore, aortic valve replacement has become one of the main treatments. TAVR is a substantial progress in the development of cardiovascular disease in recent years. The surgery that used to require thoracotomy can now be completed with a catheter. Traditional open-heart surgery, which require aortic valve replacement under general anesthesia, is not tolerated by 30% to 50% of aortic valvular patients and may not be suitable for the elderly.

TAVR makes minimally invasive interventional therapy for heart valves in the elderly a reality.

TAVR is the primary treatment for surgical intolerance in patients with aortic valve disease, especially AS.

As a vascular interventional therapy technique, it is currently mainly suitable for the treatment of severe AS and AR.

Currently, about 95% of cases worldwide involve femoral artery intervention.

The fully assembled artificial aortic valve was inserted into the location of aortic valve lesion through catheter to complete the replacement.

TAVR procedure

1, According to the patient's conditions, general anesthesia or local anesthesia for surgery.

2. Cut the skin, puncture the blood vessel, and insert a special catheter.

3. The artificial valve is sent to the position of the heart valve in body through a catheter. After release, the artificial valve will begin to work.

4. Finally, Remove the catheter, suture.

As a minimally invasive interventional procedure, TAVR has the advantages of low surgical risk and strong tolerance in high-risk patients, which has become the development trend.
