Is TAVI the same as TAVR?

TAVR Simulator

TAVI(Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation). It is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat aortic stenosis, which is a condition where the aortic valve in the heart becomes narrowed and restricts blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body.

During TAVI, a small incision is made in the groin or chest, and a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel and guided to the heart. The replacement valve is then inserted through the catheter and positioned inside the diseased valve, where it is expanded to take its place.

TAVI is an alternative to traditional open-heart surgery for patients who are at a high risk of complications or who have other medical conditions that make them poor candidates for open surgery. It is also a less invasive option for patients who prefer not to undergo major surgery or want to recover more quickly.

TAVI has a number of benefits over open-heart surgery, including shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery times, and a lower risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, and stroke. However, it is important to note that not all patients are good candidates for TAVI, and the procedure does carry some risks, such as damage to the artery or the heart during the procedure.

Overall, TAVI is a safe and effective alternative to open-heart surgery for selected patients with aortic stenosis. Its minimally invasive approach offers significant benefits and a faster recovery time compared to traditional open-heart surgery.

What is difference between TAVI and TAVR?

TAVI and TAVR are minimally invasive procedure used to replace the aortic valve in patients with aortic stenosis. Both refer to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation or Replacement.

TAVI/TAVR involves the insertion of a catheter through a small incision in the patient's groin or chest, and navigating it through the arteries to the heart's aortic valve. The new valve is compressed onto the catheter and guided to the site of the old valve. Once in place, the new valve is expanded and replaces the old valve.

TAVI/TAVR is an alternative to traditional open-heart surgery for patients who may not be able to tolerate invasive surgery.

TAVR simulator is suitable for simulating transcatheter aortic valve replacement. There are different types of medical simulator available for medical education.
