Open House event in Plžen - 6.05.2022

CZ reference

On May 6, 2022, the director of the Municipal Crematorium of Plžen, Mrs. Kateřina Šneberková opened the doors of her structure to an event powered by MES Europe, which was able to boast the presence of guests such as the directors and managers of the crematoria of the main cities of the Czech and Slovak Republic. The aim was to spread knowledge of Matthews technology in these specific areas. The meeting was entirely managed, conceived and organized by our local team, Eng. Jan Šimon and Eng. Jan Šipek.

What better location than this to host an open house? The municipal cemetery of Plžen hosts on its surface 3 MES cremation lines, divided into two separate buildings.

In the first building, which we find immediately at the entrance to the cemetery, at the foot of the hill, the first two cremators are installed, the high-performance MES CRM/6R model, which is the most advanced of the range, capable of working in a continuous cycle 24/7, on three shifts, where required. Cremation cycles last on average 80 minutes, in relation to the casket size.

All MES models have a completely automatic operation, thanks to a PLC in charge of regulating the processes based on the detected parameters. The system constantly evaluates and records the data of each individual cremation, creating a history. Furthermore, a computerized supervision and management system of the cremation process remotely controls the various stages of cremation.

Each MES cremator uses the “Hot Hearth” technology, which provides that the cremation chamber (in which the actual combustion process takes place) is placed above the post-combustion chamber (in which the flue gases emitted remain for at least 2 seconds to at least 850 ° C, according to the regulations in force in Europe), so that the machine self-feeds its own heat from below, saving fuel. By design, the loading door of MES CRM/6 cremator is 1.10 m wide to enable the insertion of XL bodies up to 350 kg (against the standard 180 kg); the cremation floor has also been specially designed to support oversized caskets.

The operator uses a touchscreen panel with graphic interface, from which he can view the progress of the process. The panel is applied to the Switchboard, on which there are buttons for any manual intervention.

In the specific case of these two cremators, with rear ash discharge, the same controls of the panel, located on the back of each machine, are also duplicated on board the coffin loader, so that the operator can easily start the cremation cycle from the front, while assisting the insertion.

In the project, all the instrumentation of the cremators was hidden away inside their cladding: in this way the machines appear as elegant monoblocks with a solemn appearance, and at the same time the burners, gas pipes and other equipment are safe and do not interfere with the crematorium activities.

Even the refractory flue gases pipes, which connect the plant to the chimney, are hidden away under the floor, with a net saving in terms of space.

The third cremation line of Plžen is located separately, in the room behind the church of the cemetery, on the top of the hill. This is the CRM/6A model, which is distinguished from the other two by the front ash discharge and the flue gases duct that rises directly upwards to the chimney.

In addition to the cremators, each of the buildings also houses the cremation accessories, essential for carrying out the activities: an ash processor, model PLC1, and a coffin loader, autoloader model with fixed head.

Where there are two lines side by side, the coffin loading is carried out by a single automatic device with a fixed head that moves on the rail. This solution saves space and money - because it uses one less autoloader - but also saves time, since, since the operator always remains at a safe distance from the intense heat released, it is not necessary for the oven to go down much. temperature to allow reloading. In this way, further savings are obtained from the point of view of optimizing fuel consumption and the workforce.

At the end of the process, the cremation remains left to cool in the rear compartment of the cremator, are refined by the ash processor PLC1. This machine also works automatically and is activated by inserting the ash tray; the system, equipped with an extractor fan, prevents volatile parts from leaking into the surrounding environment and is equipped with soundproof walls to reduce noise emissions. All this contributes to preserving the health of the operators.

MES Europe srl is also able to provide a service of technical assistance and scheduled maintenance on Czech and Slovakian area with a local team, on all models and brands of cremation systems, to ensure maximum continuity of the service in compliance with the needs of public administrations.

The Plžen crematorium is an extraordinary reference of which we are proud, as well as the first MES Europe plant dedicated to human cremation in the Czech Republic, alongside the multitude of interesting projects carried out in the branch of pet cremation.
