Simport's offering for Petri dishes

When we think of Simport, we imagine cassettes for histology, tubes of PCR but we rarely think of Petri dishes. It is strange because we offer a whole range of them! Maybe it’s just because we don’t offer the one that’s used daily in all microbiology labs, the classic dish of 15 x 100 mm. Our offer is a little more esoteric than that— Let’s see what’s in it.

First, a little semantics, if I may. It seems that this pretty but strange name "petri" comes from that of its inventor Julius Richard Petri, a German bacteriologist who invented this device at the beginning of the 20th century.

Our flagship D210-18 50 x 9 mm product is typically used to deposit the filters used for drinking water testing. Filter a predetermined amount of water, place the filter in the petri dish, add the liquid nutrient medium and incubate for 24 or 48 hours. Afterward, the number of colonies is counted and the number of colonies must be below a certain threshold; and that certain types of bacteria such as E. coli are absent, for the water to be considered fit for consumption. Our product distinguishes by its excellent sealing to prevent evaporation. The point here is that if it’s reasonable to buy filters from the filter companies, you can also potentially save a lot of money by buying petri dish from a manufacturer of disposable labware.

We also offer other deeper Petri dishes (D210-7 and D210-8 either 20 or 25 mm deep) This makes it possible to put more culture medium and thus to allow more tedious organisms to grow for longer periods of time, as for yeast, for example.

The D210-16 is a unique petri dish because it is square and has a grid! This model is often used in research for phage virus typing. And this shape allows optimal use of the incubator space!

Finally, contact plates D210-17 are also available which, when filled with culture media, allow the level of contamination of a surface to be tested by simply depositing the dish in question to collect the contaminants and count them after the incubation period, this is also facilitated by an integrated grid.

So no doubt now. When looking for products for microbiology, we must also think of Simport!
