Selecting a UV-C Disinfection Robot: Key Parameters and a Comparative Benchmark

Robots equipped with UV light accessories are ideal for disinfecting hospital rooms, commercial centers, classrooms, sports halls, and other public spaces. Disinfection of indoor spaces becomes more important than ever.

Choosing a UV-C robot means weighing lamp count, lamp lifespan, irradiance, safety interlocks and traceability. This buyer-oriented benchmark sets Wolf-e Robotics' CoBOT Ultra against UVDI-360, Tru-D, Thor-UVC, SteriPro and Xenex LightStrike, with emphasis on power, safety and platform-based compliance.

Post-pandemic hygiene requirements pushed hospitals toward mobile, autonomous UV-C disinfection that can reach the shaded, hard-to-access zones a fixed lamp leaves untouched. A robot navigates the room to minimise distance and shadowing, then documents the cycle. Procurement decisions should turn on measurable parameters: number of UV-C tubes, lamp lifespan, UV-C irradiance, safety systems and the mode of remote control and reporting.

On power and lamp technology, the compared systems differ sharply. Wolf-e Robotics' CoBOT Ultra uses ten high-quality Philips UV-C sources at 253.7 nm with no ozone generation, for a total 3250 W and 12,000-hour lifespan, and cycles 25% more efficient than chemical disinfection. The UVDI-360 (US) starts from four lamps with an aluminium reflector, 650 W total, 4,000-hour lamp life. Tru-D (US) uses 28 encapsulated low-mercury lamps, 2,400 W, 8,000 hours. Thor-UVC (UK/US, Finsen Tech) runs 24 low-pressure mercury lamps of 95 W each, 2,280 W total, 9,000 hours. SteriPro (Slovenia) uses 16 mercury-vapour lamps at 254 nm, 2,000 W, 9,000 hours. Xenex LightStrike (US) uses a single 820 W xenon lamp across 200–315 nm, 1,600 W, with lamp life of 500–1,500 hours.

Safety and traceability separate professional systems. CoBOT Ultra will not start if it detects people within range, using four PIR sensors with 360° coverage and a 10 m detection radius, and integrates a dedicated Android application with a management platform offering fleet management, per-room QR codes, cleaning routines and source-life tracking. Competing systems offer comparable interlocks and reporting (UV Dose Verify labels, cloud portals, LIDAR mapping, email reports).

On price, the market ranges from roughly €51,000 to about €121,000; CoBOT Ultra is positioned at around half the price of Tru-D and Xenex, and over five times more powerful than the similarly priced UVD.
