UV-C Disinfection as Non-Pharmaceutical Defence Against Antimicrobial Resistance
In a context where preventing healthcare-associated infections is more critical than ever, Wolf-e Robotics systems support both medical professionals and patients by offering an ideal balance between technology, efficiency, and ease of use.
At the 2025 National Surgery Conference (Iași, 1,350 participants), Wolf-e Robotics positioned UV-C disinfection as a complementary, non-antibiotic tool against antimicrobial resistance, which ECDC foresight warns could push surgery toward a "post-antibiotic era".
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is emerging as a fundamental threat to modern surgery. ECDC projections for 2040 warn that, without decisive intervention, healthcare could approach a "post-antibiotic era" in which routine procedures become dangerous because infection can no longer be reliably controlled. In that landscape, technologies that prevent infection without relying on antimicrobials move from useful to essential.
UV-C disinfection is exactly such a technology. By destroying the genetic material of bacteria, viruses and fungi, it targets environmental contamination — the root of transmission — and reduces the emergence and spread of resistant strains without using antibiotics. It is also scalable, integrating into any infrastructure from large hospitals to small private offices. Wolf-e Robotics' line for this purpose spans mobile UV-C units for operating rooms and wards, UV-C air-filtration devices built into building infrastructure for continuous operation, and autonomous robots that optimise UV-C exposure to room geometry through advanced mapping — all operating without exposing staff to radiation or chemicals.
The company presented this approach at the 2025 National Surgery Conference (International Hotel, Iași, 28–31 May 2025), held in partnership with the "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The forum drew 1,350 participants, 420 scientific papers, 31 international speakers and 12 specialised societies, underlining that prevention through smart disinfection is now part of the surgical conversation.
