Lead-lined RX doors: how to choose them for radiology rooms
Where they are needed and how the lead thickness is defined
An RX door is not just a door: it is part of the room's radiation shielding. If it is undersized or poorly installed, it becomes the weak point of the whole protection.
Where RX doors are needed. Conventional radiology and diagnostic imaging, CT, mammography, angiography and cath labs, hybrid rooms where surgery and imaging share the same space, nuclear medicine and rooms with radioactive sources, dental and veterinary radiology.
The lead thickness. It is defined in the radiation protection design and depends on the type of equipment and its operating voltage, the workload of the room, the distance from the source and the use of the adjoining rooms (corridor, waiting room, office).
Our RX doors. Hospital Division manufactures hinged and sliding RX doors with 1, 2 or 3 mm lead sheet, on the HOSPITAL45 profile or, where airtightness is also required, on the HOSPITAL60 hermetic profile. RX vision panels are available in Pb 1, 2 or 3 mm.
